At Bayou Rides Exchange, we are passionate about enhancing the lives of Louisiana's seniors through our meal programs. Our initiatives, including Meals on Wheels and congregate meal sites, ensure that seniors receive nutritious meals and essential safety check-ins in their homes and communities. With many older adults facing food insecurity, your contribution is crucial in addressing this urgent need.
By donating your vehicle, you empower us to leverage every dollar towards delivering healthy meals to those who need them most. The funds generated from vehicle donations go directly into programs that provide home-delivered meals and community dining opportunities. Every dollar counts in feeding our seniors and fighting hunger in Louisiana.

↗Real impact, real numbers
Your generous donation can create a profound impact. For instance, a $1,500 donation can fund over 200 home-delivered meals for seniors who are homebound and often isolated. Alternatively, the same amount can provide over 400 meals at community congregate sites, where seniors come together to eat and socialize. By ensuring that seniors have regular access to nutritious food, you are not just feeding them—you are providing companionship and fostering community ties that are critical to their well-being.
How we vet recipient partners
At Bayou Rides Exchange, we are committed to partnering with reputable organizations that meet high accountability standards. We prioritize Area Agencies on Aging-contracted providers, ensuring that they adhere to federal and state standards. Additionally, we collaborate with members of the Meals on Wheels America network and those programs that align with the Older Americans Act Title III-C nutrition standards, ensuring that our recipients receive the best possible care without long waiting lists.
How proceeds flow
After covering tow and processing costs, 70-80% of the gross proceeds from each vehicle donation directly benefit our partner programs. A program ratio is then applied to ensure funds are allocated effectively to both home-delivered meals and congregate meal services. This means your donation is maximized to provide as many meals as possible to seniors in need.
Louisiana recipient landscape
In Louisiana, food insecurity among seniors is a significant issue, especially in rural areas where access to nutritious meals can be limited. Our local programs are designed to tackle these challenges head-on by providing meals that meet the specific dietary needs of seniors. State-level funding can be inconsistent, making community support through donations essential to sustaining these vital services and ensuring that our elderly population remains nourished and cared for.
