Condition & logistics
Running vs Not Running
We accept motorcycles in any condition. Whether your bike has some miles left or it's long past its prime, your donation still makes a significant impact. Don’t let a little rust or a broken engine hold you back!
Title Issues
When donating your motorcycle, ensure the title is signed on the back with the odometer reading. If you’ve misplaced the title, don’t worry—just reach out, and we can guide you through the steps to obtain a replacement before your donation.
Storage and Pickup Logistics
We understand not everyone has the means to transport their motorcycle. That's why we offer free pickup services anywhere in Louisiana! Just let us know where your bike is stored, and we’ll arrange a convenient time to collect it.
Title transfer & paperwork
In Louisiana, transferring the title of your motorcycle is straightforward. You'll need to ensure the title is properly signed over to Bayou Rides Exchange. If your motorcycle is over five years old, you'll also need to complete a Vehicle Application Form (DPSMV 1799). Notarization is not required for the title transfer, but it’s good practice to ensure everything is clear. Remember to return your license plate to the DMV as well, as it's a requirement when you part with your bike.
Tax deduction for this donation
When you donate your motorcycle, you may be eligible for a tax deduction ranging from $500 to the vehicle's fair market value. To claim this deduction, we’ll provide you with IRS Form 1098-C after the sale of your motorcycle. Keep in mind that the actual deduction could vary based on the sale price, so always consult with a tax professional to maximize your benefits.
Local context — Louisiana
Motorcycle donations in Louisiana often come from regions rich in motorcycle culture, like New Orleans and Lafayette, where riders appreciate the freedom of the open road. Many donors are looking to part with their bikes due to life changes—be it downsizing after kids move out, a divorce that necessitates a clean slate, or a relocation to a place where they can't ride. The vibrant spirit of Louisiana's motorcycle community means that every donation counts, turning idle bikes into vital support for those in need.
